About OzFlux

What is OzFlux?
OzFlux is the organisation that represents the network of eddy covariance flux towers in Australia and New Zealand. It is an unincorporated not-for-profit organisation of volunteers that provides an advocacy board for researchers that use eddy covariance flux towers.

The goals of OzFlux are to:
- Provide a platform for flux tower operators in Australia and New Zealand to submit their data via the OzFlux data portal so that data are available to anybody
- Establish basic data quality guidelines to ensure that submitted datasets meet international standards
- Manage the data platform to ensure free and unrestricted access to flux data
- Facilitate or assist with flux data submissions to national organisations like TERN and international organisations like FLUXNET
- Promote the activities of flux researchers in AUS and NZ to the general public and represent and advocate for flux research in each country and overseas
- Educate researchers, practitioners or parties about flux science, installation and maintenance of flux towers and flux data processing
- Provide a platform for exchange of information and sharing of ideas through a regular conference, specialist workshops, seminars, and/or newsletters.
Network links: TERN and OzFlux
OzFlux is currently partnered with Australia’s Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), supported by NCRIS. Some OzFlux sites are directly supported by TERN, while others remain part of OzFlux independent of TERN.
Many OzFlux sites actively contribute data to the global FLUXNET, which provides flux standardised processed flux observation data from participating sites around the world. Further details can be found on the OzFlux website.
OzFlux is an open and inclusive community of practice and anybody who wishes to join the community can join it by simply subscribing through the OzFlux email listserver. Membership ends by unsubscribing from the listserver. Membership in the OzFlux community will not be revoked unless a member has violated the commonly accepted rules of appropriate and respectful interpersonal behaviour. A member can only be expelled by a vote of the OzFlux steering committee following a formal complaint to the committee and investigation of the matter by the committee.
